The sports hall in Kettenis was filled to capacity by young footballers from KAS and FC Eupen over the first weekend of Advent. The St. Nicholas celebration provided the occasion for the gathering of all teams from the U6 to the U10 levels.
Together with their parents, siblings, companions and trainers, 250 children enjoyed a fun afternoon over coffee and cake with performances by the Seraing circus school. Boutique Chic Belgique had set up a sales stall and were offering their KAS Eupen fan merchandise at the start of the Christmas season. Not to be overlooked was the giant cake buffet. Parents and sponsors had baked a total of 40 cakes and pies, with two of them even having the club emblem of Eupen’s two football clubs.
Eupi and KAS Eupen’s professional footballers
Some professional footballers from KAS Eupen also attended the celebration. Luis Garcia, Mbaye Leye, Siebe Blondelle, Marc Valiente and mascot Eupi, who was constantly surrounded by the kids, were available for selfies and autographs. KAS directors Christoph Henkel and Thomas Herbert were also guests at the large gathering of the youth teams from the two partner clubs KAS and FC Eupen.
Bags for the football players and their siblings
The highlight of the celebration was, of course, the arrival of St. Nicholas and his entourage. Accompanied by compere Ralph Thomassen, the children sang songs in German and French. As a reward, a bag of surprises was given to the young footballers from KAS and FC Eupen and their siblings.
The committee organising the St. Nicholas celebration and volunteers from both clubs looked back on a successful St. Nicholas celebration and were pleased to see that the young football players and their companions enjoyed the afternoon together away from the football pitch in a friendly atmosphere.
