Akram Afif will be back in his second home from Villarreal CF on a one year loan. Akram, after showing his talent in Eupen from January, 2015 until end of the season 15/16, playing a main role in the promotion of KAS Eupen to the Jupiler-League, went to Spanish La Liga Club Villarreal CF from which he was loaned to Sporting Gijon for the season 16/17.
Akram from the very beginning was liked for his technical game and his personality at that time and therefore, the club is really looking forward to welcoming Akram back in Eupen, helping the team to play a successful season.
General Director Christoph Henkel: “We are really excited and also proud that Akram is coming back to Eupen. He is such a big talent and a humble person, who will definitely help our team growing and performing better. At the same time, I am sure, that with his quality he will get crucial playing time on 1st Division level for his further development as professional player, so that this will be a win-win situation. Also our fans will be looking forward to welcoming Akram back in Eupen as they liked seeing him playing in our team during his first time in Eupen. Welcome back Akram! Also I would like to thank Villarreal CF very much for agreeing to the loan for this season, which shows that also Villarreal has in mind the development of one of their most talented players”.
Akram Afif: “I am very happy to be back at Eupen this year. My last season in Villarreal and Sporting Gijon, playing in La Liga against some of the best teams and players in the world has proven to be a great experience. I feel that this season Eupen are building an ambitious team to compete in the Jupiler Pro League. Therefore, I am very pleased that Villarreal have agreed with Eupen, where I feel at home, for me to play on loan in Belgium this season. It will be an important opportunity for me to continue developing as a player. I really look forward to helping the team, and the club achieve a successful season, for the fans and for the city.”
