Following the break for international matches, KAS Eupen has an away game at Waasland-Beveren on the 6th match day of the Jupiler Pro League. The game at the Freethiel Stadium kicks off at 20:00 on Saturday.
During the break from competition, two training sessions a day
“We have prepared very intensively the past two weeks for the game and have completed two training sessions a day,” said KAS head coach Jordi Condom at the pre-match press conference. The result of Saturday evening’s game could have a big impact on table rankings: “If we win the match, we will have 6 points and can look ahead positively. With a loss, on the other hand, we would be trapped in the lower echelons of the table and that is certainly not good.” Jordi Condom added that the result was not, nevertheless, the most important thing for him. “Most of all, I want to see a team in which every player sacrifices himself for the team and plays as if it is his last ever game. If we play like that, the results will go our way sooner or later.” The opponent on the 6th match day described Jordi Condom’s side as a high-quality team that is strong in attack and fast. “We have to control that element of their game and make sure that we exploit the team’s weaknesses in order to create our own chances.”
Jordan Lotiés: “We need to focus for the full 90 minutes”
The second KAS representative at the press conference was central defender Jordan Lotiés. The Frenchman was not willing to confirm that the break for international matches had been beneficial: “We lost our last game in Lokeren, and after a loss you just want to play again and not have a break.” The many goals conceded so far this season by KAS Eupen have been absolute torture for him as a defensive player. Jordan Lotiés also had a solution: “We are a team that usually controls possession, but we still have to learn that whenever we lose the ball, every player has to focus immediately on defence and on getting the ball back. If we can do that, then we will concede fewer goals and win more points in the future.” Echoing Jordi Condom’s sentiments, Jordan Lotiés also said that it is vital to play with great passion. “However, since we have lacked consistency so far over the full 90 minutes, we have to take the field determined to win and not only adopt this attitude in phases or for one half but for the full 90 minutes.”
Akram Afif back in the squad; Fadlalla, Valiente and Diallo injured
Some players from the KAS Eupen squad are out of contention from selection for Saturday evening’s game due to injuries: on Saturday evening, Jordi Condom must make do without Abdulkarim Fadlalla, Moussa Diallo, Ibrahim Diallo and Marc Valiente. Akram Afif, and also, for the first time, Assim Madibo, make the provisional squad of 20 players.
