KAS and FC Eupen are hosting the 3rd Dieter Steffens Cup

More than 30 youth teams are expected to meet on FC Eupen’s artificial pitch this Saturday, 19th August. It is there that the youth football community of KAS and FC Eupen will be hosting the third edition of their youth tournament, the Dieter Steffens Cup. The U9 teams will be in action from 10:00 and the U8 teams will kick off their tournament from 15:00. Once again, both the East Belgian clubs from the north and south of the DG as well as clubs from Verviers, Liège and the German border region will attend this tournament to herald the start of the new season.

Swiss system

The tournament is played according to the Swiss system, which guarantees the teams many games against teams of a similar level. Supported by numerous assistants and referees, Helmut De Bruecker and Brigitte Fatzaun will again be in charge of the tournament this year and ensure that everything runs smoothly. Not all of the action and entertainment will be taking place on the pitch, though – a bouncy castle will be set up for the young football players and their siblings and friends.

Guests at KAS Eupen’s home game in the evening

The final round of the U9 tournament is scheduled for 13:00, while the U8 will be decided from 17:00. In addition to the winners’ trophies, tickets for the KAS Eupen game against KV Ostende will also be distributed at the final prize-giving ceremony. KAS Eupen is giving each participant a ticket for the Pro League game being played in the evening on 19th August.

Goals for a good cause

For the first time, the 3rd edition of the Dieter Steffens Cup is also being held to support a good cause. The youth committee of KAS and FC Eupen has set itself the goal of letting needy people from the region win the tournament. As the main sponsor of the youth teams from KAS and FC Eupen, Michael Johnen will support the initiative and donate one euro for every goal scored on Saturday. The youth football community will round up the amount so that an impressive amount of money is ultimately donated. The money will be transferred through the LOVOS association, KAS and FC Eupen’s social partner, to Vinzenz Verein Eupen.  That’s surely extra motivation for the kids to make a big effort to score a lot of goals and to end up with as large a donation as possible.
