The 16 clubs of the Pro League are currently tackling the first mid-week game of this season. So KAS Eupen is again in action only 3 days after the 4-1 success against KV Mechelen. The kick-off for Eupen’s away game at Gent on Tuesday is at 20:30.
Jordi Condom: “Gent is the favourite, but we want to take points”
“Although we beat this opponent twice last season, KAA Gent remains the favourite for tomorrow’s game,” said KAS head coach Jordi Condom at the press conference for the 12th match day, adding: “Statistics don’t count for much in football. That is evident from KAS Eupen’s win on Saturday evening against KV Mechelen, a team against which we have thus far never been able to earn a single point. Despite the weak start to the season, KAA Gent is one of the top 6 teams in Belgium and is a very tough opponent. But we also live by the credo that we’d like to play well and take one or perhaps even three points.”
Moussa Wagué out, Nicolas Verdier fit again
In Gent, Jordi Condom will have to make do without his right back Moussa Wagué. The Senegalese national player strained his thigh during the home game against KV Mechelen and will next be available for Saturday’s game against RSC Anderlecht at the earliest. Taking his place in the starting eleven will be his fellow countryman, Diawandou Diagne, whose goal line heroics on Saturday prevented a goal by the opposition that would have reduced Eupen’s lead to 3-2.
However, Nicolas Verdier has been given the all-clear. The scorer of a goal in the 3-1 win was injured on Saturday, but was able to complete the final training session on Monday without any problems and is thus ready for action. Saturday’s double goalscorer, Eric Ocansey, who was substituted, is fit again: “His substitution was tactical anyway – Eric can play,” said Jordi Condom.
Jordi Condom was unwilling to answer a journalist’s question as to whether Jordan Lotiès will resume his place in the starting line-up following a yellow card suspension: “I don’t want to give my Gent coaching counterparts too much information about my team selection,” he said, in justification. Jordi Condom announced that he would like to make 2 or 3 changes to the team that played against KV Mechelen. “Ultimately, we are playing our next match against RSC Anderlecht on Saturday, and we have to look at the three games as a whole,” said the coach.
