KAS Eupen ends an intense week with the away game at Excel Mouscron on Saturday evening. Just six days after claiming a point in the draw against Standard Liège and three days after qualifying for the national Cup’s round of 16, the team led by head coach Jordi Condom is due to face Excel Mouscron in the Championship. The hosts have had a cracking start to the new season and, with 13 points, are currently 4th in the Jupiler Pro League table, behind Club Brügge (Bruges), SC Charleroi and Sint Truiden. Following the 1-1 draw against Standard Liège, KAS Eupen have 4 points and are 13th in the table.
Jordi Condom: “Self-confidence against a strong opponent”
“The point we picked up against Standard and the successful comeback in the Cup game has done wonders for the team and instilled more self-confidence,” said Jordi Condom at the pre-match press conference. Luis Garcia and his teammates will need this self-confidence in order to cope with Mouscron. “It’s a strong opponent, with good individual players who play together as a team,” said Jordi Condom, when quizzed about Saturday evening’s opponent. “Mouscron doesn’t give away many chances and can switch from defence to attack very quickly. We will have our work cut out.” In terms of the strategic approach to the game, Jordi Condom confirmed that Mickäel Tirpan is expected to return to the central defender position, but underlined that tactics constitute only one element on the road to success. “More important than tactics is each player’s commitment. That’s why we have to go out there with the same attitude that we had on Sunday against Standard.”
Marc Valiente: “The success of the last week has done us good”
Marc Valiente, the Spanish central defender from the KAS Eupen squad, responded to questions from the media. “I feel more comfortable here in my new environment as each week goes by. It was tough at the beginning, because we suffered three consecutive defeats at the start of the Championship. But now we have also had some success, and that’s essential for well-being.”
The number of players dealing with injuries has not improved over the past week. Besides Ibrahim Diallo, Eric Ocansey and Abdulkarim Fadlalla are out of contention for the game against Mouscron.
