KAS Eupen will play its first home game of the new season on Saturday. The second match day of the Jupiler Pro League sees the team coached by Claude Makelele take on Sporting Charleroi. The match at the Kehrweg Stadium kicks off at 18:00. Tickets can be purchased from the box office from 16:00. The game has been classified by the security authorities as a risk category C game. That means that fans cannot bring any bags into the stadium.
Both Sporting Charleroi and KAS Eupen lost their opening matches and are thus under pressure. “That being said, I assume that Charleroi is under greater pressure than KAS Eupen,” said KAS head coach Claude Makelele at the pre-match press conference. “Charleroi now has the status of a top team and therefore certainly harbours greater expectations than we do. For us, it will be a matter of avoiding the mistakes that found us suddenly trailing 0-3 in Bruges, not affording the opponent too much respect and taking control as quickly as possible after our opening defeat.”
KAS Eupen’s new Spanish signing Xavi Molina represented the players when he took questions from the media. “During the second half in Bruges we showed a good response to our miscues at the start. That’s the way we now have to play against Charleroi,” said Xavi Molina. The Spaniard reported that he has settled in well in Eupen, that he wears the number 44 on his jersey because 4 is his favourite number and that it was he who brought the good weather to Eupen. Decisive for his move from the Spanish second division to KAS Eupen were the club’s exciting ambitions and the personal discussions he had with head coach Claude Makelele. “When someone like Claude Makelele says he wants to work with you, you do not hesitate.”
For KAS players Danijel Milicevic and David Pollet, Saturday night’s game will serve as a reunion with colleagues from their former club.
Apart from Rémi Mulumba, who is suspended, Claude Makelele has a full squad from which to make a selection. Click HERE for a list of players making up KAS Eupen’s squad for the game against Sporting Charleroi.
