KAS Eupen really wants to go for it in Lokeren on Saturday

Last Saturday’s first win of the season against KV Oostende has relieved KAS Eupen and increased their self-confidence. “We really want to go for it against Lokeren,” agreed KAS head coach Jordi Condom and KAS midfielder Niels Schouterden at the press conference for the 5th match day. KAS Eupen has an away game against KSC Lokeren on Saturday evening. The match kicks off at 20:00 in the Daknam Stadium. All fans who are unable to make the trip to East Flanders can follow the game on the big screen among friends: Café Penalty is offering free entry from 18:00 to fans watching the public viewing.

On equal terms

The 2-1 victory over KV Oostende has done wonders for KAS Eupen. “Of course, we want to build on this successful result and also take points in Lokeren,” Jordi Condom told the journalists. “Our aim is to distance ourselves from the bottom of the table. But the same applies to our host, which has a new coach in Peter Maes, someone who is capable of getting the very best out of his team.” Just like KAS Eupen, KSC Lokeren lost the first three games of the new championship in the Pro League. The club reacted by changing coach after just two matches: Runar Kristinsson was fired and Peter Maes was hired as the new coach. The veteran led his team to a 3-2 away victory at Waasland-Beveren on the 4th game day. Sure, Lokeren would also like to celebrate its second win of the season on Saturday evening.  In this respect, the fans can count on an open game played by two committed teams on equal terms.

With maximum intensity for the full 90 minutes

“We’ve improved week on week. Now we have to manage to play the full 90 minutes at the highest level of intensity,” said Jordi Condom, analysing the situation in which his team finds itself. Last season, KSC Lokeren presented KAS Eupen with a lot of challenges, especially in terms of set-piece plays. “This remains a strength of our upcoming opponent, but in the meantime we have some big players in our newly formed team. As a result, we have completely different opportunities in terms of set-pieces both on the defensive and offensive side of the ball,” said Jordi Condom.

KAS Eupen has enjoyed a problem-free preparation for the 5th match day. Except for Ibrahim Diallo (knee injury), all players are fit and Jordi Condom can (almost) revert to his best selection.

Niels Schouterden: “Improving week on week”

Niels Schouterden told the journalists that he was far from satisfied with his own performance at the start of the season. “In the meantime, however, I have integrated better into the team and feel stronger with each game.” Niels Schouterden was delighted with the signing of Mbaye Leye. “He always keeps two defenders busy, so Eric Ocansey and I have more space in which to play our game.”
