KAS Eupen faces a considerable challenge on the 17th match day of the Jupiler Pro League. The team, playing in its black and white colours, will play table leaders FC Bruges at the Kehrweg Stadium at 18:00. “This is currently Belgium’s absolute top team, like Barça in Spain,” said KAS head coach Claude Makelele at the pre-match press conference. “Despite a difficult starting position, however, we are going to do everything we can to make things tough for this strong opponent,” added the coach.
During the first few weeks of his coaching career at Eupen, Claude Makelele has been working mainly on the defensive organisation of his team. “The players now understand what it’s all about, both from a tactical and a defensive perspective. Now we have to rediscover our passion and our confidence in terms of attack,” Makelele told the journalists.
KAS Eupen’s Spanish defender, Marc Valiente, put it similarly. “We are now much more solid in defence, but so far we haven’t scored any points. That will change if we continue to play as a team, playing tight and sometimes having a bit of luck in attack. I’m convinced that our strikers have the qualities required to score goals.”
3500 spectators expected
By Thursday evening, almost 2800 tickets for the game had been sold in advance. At the pre-sale on Friday and Saturday (10:00-13:00) and at the box office (from 16:00 on Sunday), fans still have several opportunities to secure their tickets for the home game against the table leaders at the Kehrweg Stadium. Depending on the weather, around 3500 spectators are expected.
Kick-off by Franco Morbidelli
The game between KAS Eupen and Club Bruges will be kicked off by Moto 2 world champion Franco Morbidelli. The 24-year-old, who is going up to the top MotoGP division next year, rides for the Belgian team Marc VDS with Michael Bartholemy from Eupen. On Sunday, the entire VDS racing team will attend the Fan Day at the Eupen Karting Center and will follow the match at the Kehrweg Stadium in the evening.
Risk category C match: no bags!
The game on 3rd December has been classified as a risk category C match by the security authorities. This means that spectators are not allowed to bring bags, backpacks and belt bags into the stadium. The ban also applies to the business area. Umbrellas with a point are also prohibited, but pocket umbrellas are permitted.
