Marking the end of a successful season, Henry Onyekuru and Fahad Abdulrahman from KAS Eupen’s ‘A’ team have been nominated for the two top Belgian football trophies, the ‘Soulier d’Ebène’ (The Ebony Shoe) and the ‘Lion belge’ (Belgian Lion). The Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru is one of the five finalists for the ‘Soulier d’Ebène’, which will be awarded to the top African player in the Belgian League on 8 May in Brussels. But the 19-year-old KAS Eupen goalgetter has powerful contenders: Landry Dimata(KV Ostende), Mbaye Leye (Zulte Waregem), Sofiane Hanni and Youri Tielemans (both RSC Anderlecht) have also been nominated. The winner will be chosen by sports journalists and League club coaches.
Next Monday, the ‘Lion d’Or’ prize will be awarded in Brussels. This prize goes to the best Arab player in the Belgian League. In the category of upcoming talents, KAS Eupen’s Qatari left back Fahad Abdulrahman is one of the three players nominated.
