Senegal qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with a 2-0 win in South Africa on the 5th match day of Group D in the African qualifiers. In doing so, Moussa Wague is the first AS player in history to qualify for a FIFA World Cup.
Moussa Wague was part of the Senegalese national squad throughout the World Cup qualifiers and has been a permanent member of the starting eleven. The Eupen player will join the squad under national coach Aliou Cissé for the final World Cup qualifier this coming Tuesday in Dakar (the return leg against South Africa).
Prior to the game on the last match day, Senegal holds an unassailable lead with 11 points in Group D of the African qualifiers. Burkina Faso and Cape Verde (with 6 points each) and South Africa (4 points) no longer have a chance to take first place and will not therefore participate in the World Cup.
So there is a chance that Moussa Wague will become the first player in AS history to participate in a FIFA World Cup. AS congratulates Moussa Wague on this great success!
