“No, Mouscron is not a final yet”

On the 5th match day of the Pro League, KAS Eupen and Royal Excel Mouscron will face off as the two teams yet to score any points. Nevertheless, KAS Eupen’s coach Claude Makelele is not willing to label Saturday night’s game at the Cannonier Stadium a final. “It’s still early days in terms of the Championship,” he said at the pre-match press conference.

“A sense of achievement will take the pressure off my players”

Claude Makelele sees the balance in the team, with players fighting for each other, as more important than the result of the game. “We have found this balance now and we need to consolidate it. Naturally, a good result can encourage us to keep working hard and it will certainly also help players play more freely in the future,” he said.

“Although the game at Mouscron is not the key to avoiding relegation, it is, of course, our first game against a direct competitor,” added the coach.

KAS Eupen has postponed its Friday training session until the afternoon and will depart for Mouscron in the early evening.

Rocky Bushiri and Samuel Essende make the squad

In terms of the composition of KAS Eupen’s squad, there were still a couple of question marks at the time of the press conference on Friday afternoon. The Association has still not delivered a verdict on Eric Ocansey’s suspension. Danijel Milicevic’s foot was still slightly painful, but he should be fit again by Saturday night, so Claude Makelele has also included him in the preliminary squad of 21 players. While Eric Ocansey has not been selected, the two new signings Rocky Bushiri and Samuel Essende will make their first appearances in the squad of their new club this week.
