In the context of their social engagement, the Pro League clubs are supporting the national campaign against bowel cancer on the 27th and 28th match days. This will see the KAS Eupen and KSC Lokeren teams coming out onto the Kehrweg pitch on Saturday evening wearing white shirts sporting the logo with the blue ribbon. The coaches and sporting staff of both teams will be wearing the blue ribbon on their jackets during both the match and their respective TV interviews.
In existence for several years, the aim of the Stop Bowel Cancer campaign run by Antwerp gastroenterologist Dr Luc Colemont is to raise the Belgian population’s awareness to the importance of preventive care.
One in every twenty Belgians is set to suffer from bowel cancer at some time in his life, while 8 Belgian families lose a loved one through bowel cancer every day. The cure rate of this form of cancer is more than 90% when it is detected at an early stage by a simple stool test, a fact highlighted by Dr Colemont and his team for many years now.
