Team of KAS and ZFP Eupen at international tournament in Leverkusen

The Special Champions League team of KAS and ZFP Eupen participated in its second international tournament last week in Leverkusen. A total of 11 inclusion teams experienced great matches and many interesting encounters during three days at the Kurt Rieß facility near the BayArena.

The tournament in Leverkusen was organized within the framework of the EU-supported project EFDN (European Football for Development Network), in which KAS Eupen participates as part of its social initiatives #Morethanfootball. The youngsters were supervised by ZFP sports teacher Zeno Mennicken, Jessica Loo, who manages the project at KAS Eupen, and Johannes Queck as delegate.

As part of this project, KAS Eupen, together with the Center for Special Needs Education Eupen, created a team that trains weekly under Zeno Mennicken, plays friendly matches against teams from the region and youth teams from KAS Eupen, and participates in workshops.

The tournament in Leverkusen was the second major event for the young players with a mental impairment. In February, the KAS and ZFP Eupen team had already participated in an international event in Lisbon.

KAS Eupen would like to expand its soccer offer for people with impairments in the near future and is looking for partners for such initiatives.
